It has been a rough couple of years for the crew at McCormack Building Supply in Winslow.  In October of 2019, they suffered a devastating fire.

No one was injured in the blaze, which tore through the business and caused so much smoke that it could be seen from downtown Augusta.

Thanks to the help of the community, the business quickly got back on its feet.  Within a few days, they were operating from a spot next to Pleau's Market.  In fact, they never really "closed".  The fire occurred on Friday, October 11th.  They were open for business on Monday, October 14th.

They also had a lot of help from the community.  A bottle drive, put on by Winslow High School and Raider Redemption, raised $7,500.  That money helped McCormack open their temporary China Road location.  Additionally, the Winslow Congregational Church held a benefit that raised over $1,100 for the company's employees.  As McCormack is a local business that frequently gives back to the community, it was a no-brainer for hundreds to step up and donate when the building supply company was in need.

In addition to the fire, like all of us, they have spent the last year dealing with the pandemic.  But, they have persevered.

According to the KJ, they broke ground on a new Lithgow Street building in October of 2020.  The current plan is to be back under one roof by sometime in late summer.  Probably sometime in August.

The new building has some great improvements.  These include an ADA compliant ramp and bathrooms.  Additionally, due to its location near the Kennebec River, the building is now flood proof.

We wish them all the best and look forward to the opening of their Lithgow Street location.
