According to a press release from the Kennebec County Sheriff's Department, one man is in custody following an alleged armed robbery that turned into a several hours long stand-off.

According to the release, at just before 5 AM on Wednesday morning, law enforcement was called to Chelsea for a report of an armed robbery.  A female victim said she was forced to go to an ATM to withdraw cash.  That cash was then taken from her at gunpoint.

In the investigation, it was determined that a person of interest was staying at a mobile home on Cooper Road in Chelsea.  That person, Johnny L. Walker (of Rochester, New York) was not willing to leave the residence.  With the residence surrounded, law enforcement spent several hours negotiating with Walker.

The press release explained:

During this time a search warrant for the residence was secured and an arrest warrant was issued for a Johnny L. Walker, 40 years of age, of Rochester New York. At approximately 12:15 p.m. Mr. Walker surrendered himself to Deputies and was taken into custody.  A search warrant was executed at the residence and large amounts of illegal narcotics and over $5,200.00 in cash were seized.  Agents from Maine Drug Enforcement Agency assisted the Sheriff’s Office during this incident.

Walker has been charged with:

  • Robbery, class A.
  • Creating a Police Stand-off, class E.
  • Aggravated Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs, class A.

Walker's bail has been set at $25,000 cash.

The Maine State Police helped in the investigation.
