In the nearly 18 months since the COVID-19 pandemic began affecting us here in the United States, Maine has had 777 COVID-related deaths and over 60,000 COVID-19 cases.

That being said, life in the Pine Tree State is slowly getting back to normal.  According to the Maine CDC, we have one of the highest rates of vaccination in the country and, earlier this week, Governor Mills announced she was loosening some of her strengthened mandates.

As we prepare to put the pandemic behind us, a new topic has started to come up: what do we do to memorialize those who lost their lives in the pandemic?

According to WMTW, Democratic Sen. Ben Chipman, of the Portland area, has proposed a bill that would create a memorial at the Maine State House.

The  Legislative Council would fund and design the memorial.  There is no timeframe on when the memorial would be approved or installed.

What are your thoughts?  Is it too soon to be thinking about putting up a memorial?  What should the memorial look like?  Let us know your thought by messaging us through our app or on Facebook.
