According to the Kennebec Journal, a recent traffic stop in the city of Waterville led to the discovery of drugs.

The KJ reports that the traffic stop was otherwise routine Monday on Waterville's Kennedy Memorial Drive.

A Maine State Trooper made a traffic stop at around 4:30 Monday afternoon on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had failed to yield the right-of-way near Washington Street.

The KJ said that the license that the driver provided to police didn't appear to be his own. They quickly realized that the drivers license provided by the driver actually belonged to the passenger. That passenger just happened to be the driver's twin brother.

Police say the passenger, 45-year-old Clifton Pinion of Methuen Mass, quickly identified himself to officers, though the driver, 45-year-old Matthew Pinion, also of Mass, refused.

The driver, Matthew Pinion, then took off on foot and led police on a brief chase in traffic. He was taken into custody moments later and sustained minor injuries from falling during the foot chase.

After Pinion's apprehension, police conducted a search of the Jeep. Their search turned up crystal meth, according to the KJ. Both brothers were then transported to the Kennebec County Jail.

Matthew Pinion was booked on drug charges that include unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs, refusing to submit to arrest, intentionally displaying the operator's license of another person and failure to give correct name and DOB, and operating without a license as his was suspended.

Clifton Pinion was booked on charges that included unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs, intentionally allowing unauthorized use of identification and failure to give correct name and date of birth.
