Maine Wild Blueberry Queen Competition Returns In 2022
After taking the last two years off because of the pandemic, one of the most popular events on Maine's mid-coast will return this summer.
According to the Mount Desert Islander, the Wild Blueberry Queen competition will return to this year's Union Fair.
This year's event will take place on July 29th. It will get underway at 7 PM.
Prior to the pandemic, the fair had been later in the summer. Because school was typically back in session when the competition took place, this made it difficult for many young ladies to participate. The hope is that this competition will open the competition up to more young ladies.
The competition is open to all ladies between the ages of 17 and 25. Contestants must be Maine residents, but can be single or married.
As they will be representing the State of Maine's blueberry growers, they should have an interest the industry.
Keep in mind that this is not a "one and done" kind of thing... The queen does have obligations throughout the year. These include representing the Maine wild blueberry industry at many state functions, parades and charitable events.

The fair runs from July 27th through July 31st.
