A WalletHub study on both property and vehicle taxes shows that Mainers are the sixth highest when it comes to being taxed on vehicle property.

Twenty-four states have an effective vehicle tax rate of zero percent.

Maine has the sixth highest effective vehicle tax rate, with a rate of 2.40 percent. That means the annual taxes on a car valued at $23,000 dollars in Maine is $554 compared to $0 for those twenty-four states.

Maine fares a little better when it comes to property taxes. Maine has the 17th highest effective real-estate tax rate at 1.27 percent. Maine's median home value is $173, 600 with the annual taxes on a median home value at $2,206.
