Maine Man Arrested After Stealing What He Thought Was a Safe Turned Out to be Mini-Fridge
A Maine man is in custody following a burglary involving a mini-fridge.
According to WABI TV 5, 24-year-old Todd Francis of Orrington has been arrested and charged. Authorities say Francis was involved in an altercation in Bangor Thursday night near Division street where he reportedly assaulted someone outside of an apartment.
Someone heard the commotion and opened the door to the apartment to see what was going on. At that time, Francis allegedly pushed past the person in the doorway to enter the apartment. Police say he entered in search of a safe he had intended to steal. Instead, Francis picked up a mini-fridge and ran out the door.
After realizing what he had done, Francis discarded the fridge as police were beginning to chase him. At that point, Francis turned and jumped into the Kenduskeag Stream.
Sgt Wade Betters of the Bangor Police Department said, ”He jumped over the handrail and went into the stream and attempted to swim away. Officers threw him a safety line with a flotation device on it. Firefighters came down and lowered a ladder.”
Francis was arrested and charged with Burglary, Probation Violation and Refusal to Submit to Arrest.
