The Maine Department of Health and Human Services reports the divorce rate in the state is lower than it has been in 10 years. During that time the divorce rate dropped while marriages in Maine rose about 2%.

Maine’s rate of divorce follows the national average that has declined in a similar fashion. Researchers at Bowling Green State University say the decline in due to the fact that people are waiting longer to get married. Another factor is that couples are living together first to get an idea of what marriage is all about.

According to pressherald.com in 2008 there were 5,599 divorces as compared to 3,947 in 2017.
