Marisa Weinstein, music teacher at Warsaw Middle School in Pittsfield was surprised at a school assembly Tuesday, April 9. She was named the Maine Music Educators Association 'Educator of the Year.'

According to the Kennebec Journal, Principal Kristen Gilbert presented the award saying, "She is someone who takes on responsibilities, demonstrates integrity daily and has a great sense of community."

Weinstein has taught music for the past 23 years and was nominated for the award in January. Her students have continually been selected for district and state music competitions.

The award is given every year to an outstanding primary or secondary music teacher.
