Central Maine Girls Win National Twirling Championship
The Main-E-Acts Baton Twirling Team just came back to Central Maine from the University of Notre Dame with some prestigious hardware, national championship trophies from the National Baton Twirling Association’s Grand National Baton Twirling Championships.
The team, which has girls from: Augusta, Bangor, Brewer, Bucksport, South Paris and West Gardiner, won national championships in two separate categories and also placed very high in several other competitions during the event.
Central Maine Twirling Corps shared the exciting news on their Facebook page.
They also shared some video highlights from the competition.
The Main-E-Acts Baton Twirling Team was created in 2004 and is the travel component of the Central Maine Twirling Corps—a larger baton twirling program supported and offered by the Augusta Recreation Department and the Bangor Parks and Recreation Department. Team members are selected by the director of the Central Maine Twirling Corps for their outstanding twirling and dancing abilities, as well as their enthusiasm, dedication, and passion for the sport of baton twirling.
Before claiming national titles, the team did very well in regional competition, going to Indiana as the reigning 2017 Northeast Regional Senior Parade Corps, Show Corps and Halftime Show Team champions.
The members of the 15-girl team that brought home the hardware are: Mollie Berglund (West Gardiner), Paige Blackwell (Bangor), Amanda Cameron (West Gardiner), Alexandra Clowes (Brewer), Cassidy Fish (Hampden), Jessica Hymas (Brewer), Morgan Mayhew (South Paris), Megan McCormick (South Paris), Ingrid Plant (Hampden), Lindsay Pitts (Bucksport), Helen Rebar (Bangor), Makenzie Sayers (Brewer), Alanna Thomas (Hampden), Embree Thomas (Hampden) and Autumn Trafton (Augusta).
