I've always been enamored with the Viles Arboretum...it's a truly special place and I always feel miles away from where I am when I visit.

If you've never been, Viles Arboretum is a free, easily accessible, botanical garden. The space includes six miles of trails, several botanical collections, and local art all on 224 acres right in Augusta. Dogs are also allowed on the trails, on a leash.

According to a story by centralmaine.com, the Viles Arboretum has plans to open an indoor activity room for children. The Children's Discovery Room will allow for a safe space for children to explore and play outside their home.

Families will have the ability to rent out individual time slots for the Discovery Room for a socially distant play experience. This unique environment will allow for fun educational opportunities by allowing children to use their own curiosity and imagination to interact with their environment.

The Children's Discovery Room is filled with age appropriate interactive learning tools for children 1-6 years old. The Viles Arboretum feels no age group has been more impacted by the pandemic than children and this will help serve the community.

The room is inspired by and will be working in conjunction with the Children’s Discovery Museum and will be set-up with a nature sensory table, microscopes, play trains, and much more.

Viles Arboretum will require parents to register for private play sessions between the hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. durning their normal days of operation, Wednesday through Saturday.
