So, you have a high school student in your life who is a real go-getter?  He or she is always doing all they can to get ahead and to get prepared for life after high school?

This could be the perfect opportunity for them.

According to News Center Maine, the University of Maine is going to be offering more than 50 courses to high school students for free this summer.

While many of these classes will be held online, a few will need to be taken in-person.  The classes being held in-person will take place at University of Maine campus in Orono, the University of Maine Hutchinson Center in Belfast, and the University of Maine at Machias campus.

Juniors and seniors are being given priority when it comes to classes with limited space, but freshmen and sophomores are still able to sign up.

The program allows students to get some of their required college classes out of the way while they are still in high school.  High school students who qualify for the program can earn up to 12 college credits per year and save up to $4,000.

The courses are being offered for free because they are sponsored by the Maine Department of Education.

Any high school student who is interested in the classes can get more details and sign up HERE.  The deadline for registration is one week before the classes are scheduled to start.
