According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety a 9 vehicle crash closed a section of I-95 near Bangor for several hours.

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

The incident started at approximately 8:15 on Friday (March 18th) morning when the driver of a Dodge Caliber swerved to avoid roadkill.  The driver over corrected and ended up rolling their vehicle into a ditch near mile marker 185 on the northbound side of the interstate.

The press release goes on to say

Minutes later, a secondary crash involving a tractor-trailer unit was called in, traffic came to a halt and Maine State Police Responded. A second tractor-trailer unit came around the bend and was unable to avoid the traffic that had come to a halt and struck several other vehicles, which in turn struck more vehicles, involving 9 vehicles in total.

Two people were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and later released.  A third person was transported to the hospital by their employer.

Despite a number of factors that made the situation difficult, including the number of vehicles involved and how busy that section of highway is, first responders were able to quickly get one lane of traffic open.  All units had cleared the scene before noon.

The Maine State Police continue to investigate the situation, but no charges are expected to be filed.
