You may not know this (I didn't before I was a parent), but your kid's car seat has an expiration date.  They don't stay "safe" forever.  On top of that, if a car seat has ever been through an accident (even a fender-bender) it is no longer considered safe.

How do you find the expiration date of your car seat?  Most car seats, like the very popular Graco seats, will have a "date of manufacture" listed on the seat.  And, either on the seat or listed in the seat's instruction manual, there should be a "useful life" listed.  Use the DOM and "useful life" to determine when it is time to get a new seat.

So, what do you do if your car seat is out of date?  You've got to buy a new one!

Here's a tip to help you save some money - according to News Center Maine, Target is bringing back their car seat trade-in program.

Between Monday, April 5th and Saturday, April 17th, you can bring your old (or damaged) car seat to your local target and, using the coupon, get 20% off a replacement car seat.

Plus, they'll be offering some other deals on baby stuff.
