According to News Center Maine, six teenage girls were pronounced dead following a head-on collision that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

Reports indicate the girls were all travelling together in a black passenger vehicle when it collided with an 18-wheeler travelling the other way.

The collision happened at about 12:30 PM in the small Oklahoma town of Tishomingo, which sits about 100 miles from Oklahoma City, News Center says.

As of now, the ages and identities of the girls who perished in the crash are currently being withheld as the investigation is ongoing and families are notified.

Oklahoma State Police have not released the condition of the semi driver at this point in the evening, though we will keep this story updated as more information becomes available.

Bobby Waitman, Tishomingo Public School Superintendent, said that the school would be open on Wednesday for student support and that counselors would be on-hand at the school all night on Tuesday for students and parents who needed someone to talk to, according to News Center Maine.
