Seven Charged with Drug Smuggling into Maine State Prison
Charges have been filed for seven people involved in an interstate drug smuggling effort that brought drugs into the Maine State Prison in Warren.
Arrested were:
- Paul Milardo, 41, of Cushing
- Douglas Mazzotta, 71, of Middletown, Connecticut
- Christy Nason, 38, of Warren
- Edward Robinson, 33, of Randolph
- Lisa Works, 27, of Topsham
- Travis Work, 30, of Topsham
- Matthew Binnette, 30, of Biddeford
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says Milardo was the suspected ringleader inside the prison. He already was serving time for a drug-related robbery.
The drugs, according to the Bangor Daily News, were allegedly being provided by a 71-year-old man in Connecticut who was purchasing Suboxone strips for $5 each. They would then be resold for $400 each within the prison.
More arrests are expected.
