A Maine Veteran Ran Over 2,000 Miles & Raised $36,000 For Charity

A veteran from Maine recently ran over 2,000 in order to raise funds for one of his favorite charities: Operation Reboot Outdoors. In the end, he raised over $36,000 for the charity which works to get veterans outside.

What is Operation Reboot Outdoors and what do they offer?

Even though Operation Reboot Outdoors (ORO) wasn't established until 2019, Daniel Waite knew for some time that he wanted to give vets and their families an opportunity at experiencing mother nature. The idea first came to him after he brought a veteran fishing. It changed both their lives

The program takes groups of veterans on hiking and fishing trips with the goal of helping them heal after their time serving our country.

Initially, the program started with small groups of vets headed out into the nature. At first, the groups averaged around ten people. Now, the groups are much, much larger. In some cases, nearly 150 participants take part in the outings.

Gary Dolloff's massive donation

According to WGME, Gary Dolloff a believer in the program and wanted make a donation. Het got people to pledge money for every mile he ran in 2021. He started the year with a goal of raising $3,000 for the program. At the end of December, after clocking over 2,100 miles (about 6 miles a day), he made a massive $36,000 donation to the program.

It's amazing to see what the residents in the beautiful state of Maine can do when we all come together to build each other up, both emotionally and physically.
