A nasty Thursday night crash on Interstate 95 left one man dead in Litchfield.

According to Maine Public Spokeswoman, Shannon Moss, the crash happened at about 6:50 PM Thursday evening in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Litchfield.

A Maine resident was driving an RV northbound in the travel lane when someone in a blue GMC pickup truck moved over to attempt to pass the RV. During the attempt at passing, the driver of the pickup truck lost control and struck the guardrail.

After striking the guardrail, the pickup truck then slammed into the RV causing both vehicles to then enter the median. The driver of the pickup truck was subsequently ejected from the truck into the roadway and was then run over by two other vehicles.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the RV and the two other vehicles involved did not report any injuries.

That section of the interstate was closed for about three hours as crews from the Maine State Police investigated the crash. Gardiner & Litchfield Fire Departments as well as crews from the Maine Turnpike Authority assisted at the scene.

According to Shannon Moss, the crash remains under investigation and the name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.
