The Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services has been holding a controlled moose hunt for disabled veterans since 2010.

The program works like a normal hunting lottery where applicants may or may not receive a permit.

If drawn, the hunter is paired with a Maine Guide with training in moose hunting according to Connecting Vets.com.

Veterans need to have a disability rating of at least 50 percent to apply.

The hunts are scheduled for August and September. Selectees from the lottery will be announced by May 24th.
