This Camden Trail Leads To Some Amazing Views Of The Ocean
According to my calendar, fall is but a few days away. For some that means pumpkin spice but for me it means hiking in the nice crisp air. One of my favorite places to hike is Camden Hills. What’s not to like? It’s where the mountains meet the sea after all!
But instead of going to Camden Hills, I’d like to suggest you hike Ragged Mountain. There are several ways you can get access to the trail as noted here. I opted for the trail head that is at Route 17. Keep in mind this particular trail head can get busy, so the early bird gets the parking space!
The trail is a bit challenging as it is steep in places and it’s considered a natural trail. That means if there are roots or fallen limbs, they don’t get cleaned up. This can make for some tricky footing so consider a walking stick. Then there was the hiker that actually jogged past me, which made me feel slightly inept. He definitely didn’t need a walking stick.
Although it’s not an easy hike, the view is worth that extra effort. From the summit you can see the islands of Penobscot Bay as well as the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Be sure to wear good hiking shoes and bring plenty of water. Bug spray is also an important option. And don’t forget the cellphone or camera to capture those views!
