As if selling millions of records and having fans all over the world isn't quite enough, it was recently announced that one of New Jersey's favorite sons, Bruce Springsteen, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

Being inducted into the honorary society is no small feat. It includes some of the world's most accomplished scholars, artists, scientists, writers and leaders. As a part of the 2013 honorees, NJ.com is reporting that Springsteen will join actor Robert De Niro, actress Sally Field as well as folk music legend Pete Seeger as new members of the academy.

"Election to the Academy honors individual accomplishment and calls upon members to serve the public good," said Academy President Leslie C. Berlowitz. "We look forward to drawing on the knowledge and expertise of these distinguished men and women to advance solutions to the pressing policy challenges of the day."

In other Springsteen news, he is heading into the Billboard Music Awards with two nominations: Top Touring Artist and Top Rock Artist. Also nominated in the Top Touring Artist category is former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters. The Billboard Music Awards will be given out on Sunday, May 19.
