UPDATED: 2 PM on February 12th

According to a press release from Waterville police Chief Joseph Massey, the deceased man is Eric J. Porter, 32, and the police officer who shot him is Paul Heath, 26.

According to the KJ, Waterville Police Department officers shot and killed at man at the Best Western Plus Waterville Grand Hotel on Upper Main Street last night (February 11th).

The deceased man was reportedly armed with a knife.  The man's identity has not been released to the public.  It does not appear any officers were injured in the incident.

While Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey was unavailable for comment, Waterville City Manager Steve Daly did send out an email to department heads early Friday morning.  In the email he notifying them of the shooting and saying all press and media inquiries should go to Waterville police.
