Just 16 years after The Mummy ReturnsThe Mummy returns.

After months of speculation and rumors, it’s official: Universal is indeed rebooting The Mummy as part of their attempt to turn their classic movie monsters — including Frankenstein, Dracula, and more — into a giant interconnected universe a la Marvel. And they’ve got a big star officially signed to attempt to defeat The Bandaged One: Tom Cruise. (Sofia Boutella, best known as the metal-legged assassin from Kingsman: The Secret Service, will play a new she-mummy).

Variety has those details, along with the confirmation that Alex Kurtzman is slated to direct the film from a script by Jon Spaihts (PrometheusDoctor Strange). Kurtzman is also the guy in charge of mapping out this new Universal Monsterverse, along with Fast & Furious scribe Chris Morgan.

The trade doesn’t have much more about the storyline, other than to say that unlike the previous version of the franchise (which was headlined by Brendan Fraser) this one will be set in present day. Plus, per Variety, “characters from the monster universe films are expected to crop up in each other’s installments before culminating in an Avengers-style tie-in film,” so who knows who else will show up here. Maybe Luke Evans’ Dracula? Or Dwayne Johnson’s Agent Hobbs from the Fast & Furious? Look, a man can dream.

After a slight change of release date (the film was originally planned for March 2017), Tom Cruise’s Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy opens in theaters on June 9, 2017.
