Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers in Waterville was evacuated yesterday. Centralmaine.com reports the word “bomb” was found written on a plastic bucket in one of the buildings. It was a joke. Police are considering charges. The bucket contained salt.

Maine has had 17 school bomb threats reported state's Department of Education so far this school year . Newscenter reports that about a 21% increase from 2016-2017 with a a total of 28 , the year before that, there were 30. In the 2015-2016 school year, it was 13.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine's attorney general says the number of drug-induced deaths in the state rose again last year, but the rate of increase slowed from the previous year. Attorney General Janet Mills says there were 418 drug-induced deaths in Maine last year, up 11 percent from the previous year's record. The number of drug deaths rose by 40 percent from 2015 to 2016.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine (AP) — Police in Maine say they are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a pregnant goat at a family dairy farm in Scarborough. The Scarborough Police Department said Thursday someone trespassed onto the farm's property and shot the 5-year-old goat named Ava while the animal was sitting in a fenced-in pen over the weekend. Smiling Hill Farm and Hillside Lumber says Ava was found dead during the Sunday morning feeding. The Portland Press Herald reports the farm is offering a $1,000 reward for the identification and arrest of the shooter. Information regarding any suspicious sightings at the farm property during the early morning hours Sunday may be reported to Scarborough police.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The federal government is taking comments from the public about a plan to try to better manage a piece of the scallop fishery that has been a source of conflict in recent years. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is looking to tweak the scallop fishing rules in the Northern Gulf of Maine.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine Republican Gov. Paul LePage's proposal to add an annual fee on electric and hybrid cars has divided Democrats and Republicans. A legislative panel voted 6-5 Thursday along party lines in favor of killing the bill. The administration says owners of hybrids and electric vehicles pay less in gas taxes than other vehicle owners.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A judge says a 57-year-old Maine man is guilty of murder in a nearly 40-year-old case that baffled authorities in Maine. Philip Scott Fournier was charged in 2016 with killing 16-year-old Joyce McLain in East Millinocket in 1980. Superior Court Justice Ann Murray issued her verdict Thursday morning in a packed Bangor courtroom.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has endorsed a position that puts him in direct opposition with the National Rifle Association. He has backed barring those under 21 from buying semi-automatic weapons. His comments Thursday came amid a public reckoning over school gun violence after last week's Florida school massacre. NRA officials have opposed the idea, but Trump says they'll get on board.

BANGKOK (AP) — New satellite imagery of Myanmar's Rakhine state shows the country's government is using bulldozers to completely flatten dozens of Rohingya Muslim villages that were burned during violence last year. Human rights groups say authorities are destroying "crime scenes" that contain evidence of atrocities committed by the nation's security forces. The operation has horrified the Rohingya, who believe the government is intentionally eviscerating their culture to stop their return.

The filing by special counsel Robert Mueller adds allegations of tax evasion and bank fraud and significantly increases the legal jeopardy facing Paul Manafort, who managed Trump's campaign for several months in 2016, and longtime associate Rick Gates.

STARKE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida Corrections official says authorities have no indication that an inmate's blood-curdling scream and shouts of "murderers!" as he was being put to death were caused by the lethal injection procedure. Forty-seven-year-old Eric Scott Branch was executed Thursday at Florida State Prison for the 1993 rape and killing of a college student.
