ROAD TRIP WORTHY: Bradford Sunflower Maze Opening This Weekend
Here's something for your late-summer bucket list, frolicking in a sea of sunflowers.
Only about 30 minutes from Bangor, an annual sunflower maze is opening for the season. The Sun Flower Maze at Country Junction in Bradford will open Saturday, September 3. Etched in rows of tens of thousands of sunflowers is multiple mazes.
According to the family-owned sunflower farm, the dry weather has not been helpful to their sunflower crop. According to the grand opening announcement on Facebook, "The weather has been quite detrimental to our flowers but we still have some in the mazes, some are short and some are tall and some haven’t opened yet but our cut sunflower garden is amazing!!"
Farther north in Aroostook country, the endless rows of sunflowers at Buck Farms in Mapleton are in bloom. The majestic photo op can be accessed by designated field roads. According to a Facebook post, the owners ask "please be courteous to your local farmers and neighbors and stay on the designated field roads, and please DO NOT remove any flowers from the field. If you would like to purchase sunflower seeds (for bird feed) they are available in The Feed Shed across the road from the Mapleton Elementary School."
