The current building that houses the Augusta Police Department is speculated to have been built around 1940 and became the police station 20 years ago.

According to the Kennebec Journal, officials have been saying that the station is in need of replacing. Counselors are scheduled to meet this Thursday, February 28th, to discuss potential new locations. If the decision is made to move forward with a new station, the funding proposal will be on the ballot in November.
