There was a multi-car crash today (Aug. 7) on Interstate 95 in Gardiner causing some major delays. The accident occurred just before 1 pm going northbound at mile marker 106 and involved a tractor trailer.

The Maine Turnpike Authority said the highway in both directions was closed for a time, but one lane was reopened just before 2 pm.

Maine State Police say a car rear-ended the tractor-trailer and causing 40 rounds of ammunition in the car to explode. The driver and his passenger were able to get out of the car before the explosions, which lasted for about 2o minutes. The driver of the tractor trailer and the two in the car were taken to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta for treatment.

There was also a second crash involving two vehicles that occurred after the first crash. No one was hurt.
