According to WMTW, a Maine couple has left a $1.3 million donation with the Bangor Humane Society making it the single largest donation ever in the shelter's history.

The money is in memory of Violet and James Moffett. They were a couple from Dover-Foxcroft who rescued lots of animals over the years.

In the event of their passing, they had requested that their donation go exclusively to caring for and feeding the animals at the Bangor Humane Society. The money will be placed in the newly created Violet F. Moffett Memorial Fund.

The Bangor Humane Society services more than 200 communities and has since 1869.
