Maine police officers officers are attending the funeral (Dec. 27) of New York Police Department Officer Rafael Ramos, who was shot and killed a week ago in Brooklyn. Ramos, 40, was killed last Saturday (Dec. 20) by a gunman who shot, him and fellow officer, 32-year-old Wenjian, in their patrol car before killing himself. Liu's funeral arrangements are still pending.

Ramos’ funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Christ Tabernacle Church in Queens. Vice President Joe Biden is expected to be among a large gathering of mourners.

Sgt. John O’Malley of the Scarborough Police Department organized the trip from Maine, and said, officers from at least 23 agencies were to join him on the VIP charter bus. According to the Bangor Daily News, officers from Auburn, Belfast, Ellsworth, Portland, Skowhegan, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office are among those attending.

O'Malley said, “It’s the right thing to do.”
