After a lot of chatter nationally about mail-in voting for this year's Presidential election, now is your time to request your absentee ballot from the State of Maine.

You can now visit the State of Maine's 'Maine Absentee Ballot Request' webpage to get your request started.

You have until Tuesday, October 29th by 5 PM to request your absentee ballot but, why wait?  Know that ballots will be mailed out a month before the election so, you'll need to wait patiently to get in on your early voting.

Maine voters currently living in Maine or the United States can fill out this online application to request your absentee ballot.

Here is the information that will be requested in order for you to receive your absentee ballot:

  • First, middle and last name, and suffix if applicable
  • Date of birth
  • Maine residence street address
  • Select your city or town by a drop-down menu or select the 'unorganized township' option
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Where the absentee ballot will be mailed, includes street or PO Box, city/town, state and zip code

There you have it.

Once you submit your information, you will have a chance to review your information.  You'll also be asked to check a 'Voter Certification' section that states the following:

I certify, under penalty of law, that I am a Maine registered voter, I am requesting my own ballot, and I completed this request form. I acknowledge that the information on this request, except for my email address, is public information to be used only for election-related activities.

Check the box, click submit and your request for your absentee ballot has just been completed electronically.

Next you will get a thank you from the Secretary of State as well as a confirmation that your ballot request will be 'submitted to the municipality you have selected and will be processed by your Municipal Clerk.'

This page also goes into detail about when you can expect your ballot.  The timeline they give is about 30 days prior to the election and sent through the mail to the address you requested the ballot to be sent to.

Last details of this page include a confirmation number that you should save (it will also get emailed to you if you provided an email in the request form), a note stating that when your Municipal Clerk processes your request you will be sent an email regarding the status of your ballot request and lastly, if you need further assistance, to contact your Municipal Clerk.
