Experience 24 Hours of Life in 1870s Maine at the Oldest Living History Museum in Maine
Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore, Maine has been partying like it's 1870 for over 40 years. The living history museum is the oldest in Maine. The historic property aims to give visitors a true to life experience of 1870s Maine, down to the original buildings, cuisine, and attire.
Washburn-Norlands welcomes public tours, school groups, and private visitors to their sprawling property. The 1867 mansion, 1883 library, 1828 meeting House, and 1853 school house are all restored for tours.
If you want more than a tour, you can submerge yourself into life as it was in the late-1800s for a full 24-hour experience. The next 24-Hour Live-In 1870 Farm Experience is set for September 30 through October 1st, so there's still time to dig out your bonnet and apron.
You'll tend the farm, collect the eggs, feed the cows, and prepare your meal all in true 1870s fashion. There's time for school in the original school house between chores and you'll enjoy games, stories, and popcorn at the end of the day. Full disclosure: Even the bathroom facilities are historically accurate. Yes, privies and chamber pots. This is the full experience, after all.
The 24-Hour Live-In 1870 Farm Experience is great for kids and adults, so make it a family event and visit Washburn-Norlands Living History Center for a unique and special learning experience.
