2016 marks the centennial anniversary of the National Park Service and our national parks are a great summer family vacation. Fourth graders across the country can get a free park to access the entire park system for a year, part of the Kid in a Park program. Many national parks are offering special programs for kids of all ages.

USA Today has a Reader's Choice: American Summer Favorites series where you can vote online on a variety of categories. One of the voting choices is for 'Best Main Street In America'. Bath, Maine is one of the twenty nominated Main Streets that you can vote for.

When I think of a drive-in movie theater it brings back great family memories. You had to position the car perfectly on the little mound of sand, hook the speaker on the rolled down driver's side window and make the trek to snack shack.

USA Today is asking their readers to vote. They have a series called USA Today 10 Best with several different categories that you can vote in. One of them, is Best Boardwalk, and Old Orchard Beach, Maine is one of the 20 finalists that you can vote for.

Public opinion has varied ever since North Carolina's governor signed into law a bill that blocked cities in that state from transgender individuals from using their choice of public bathrooms.

A bill has passed initial votes in both the Maine State House and Senate that would prevent landlords in public housing from banning tenants from having guns.

In New Jersey, a lawmaker has proposed a bill that would make it illegal to be texting while walking in public. If the bill is passed, it would carry a $50 fine or up to 15 days in jail.

Well that didn't take long!  Gas prices in Maine skyrocketed by almost 10 cents per gallon this week and are averaging over $2 per gallon. The statewide average is now at $2.05 per gallon. The national average is now at $2.04 per gallon, up over five cents per gallon this week.

The Augusta City Council is considering a property maintenance measure, the proposed ordinance would require residents, businesses and other landowners in the city to keep their properties from falling into disrepair or becoming unsafe or unsightly.

The Waterville Planning Board voted 6 to 0 to give the go ahead for a plan for a new Taco Bell restaurant at 345 Main Street, the site of the old Bank of America. That got me to thinking, what fast food chain would you like to see come to Maine. We see those television ads for places like Sonic, Golden Corral, Carl's Jr. and many more.

Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend and the consensus is that Mainers love those later sunsets. Many lawmakers in New England are looking into moving Maine and other New England states from the Eastern Time Zone to the Atlantic Time Zone.

This has got to be devastating news for Patriots' backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo, but cause for celebration throughout Maine and the rest of New England. Tom Brady has signed an extension to keep him in a Pats uniform until 2019, which means he'll be playing until he's 42 years old.

As cheer squad routines go, this one by the Lumberton (Texas) High School cheerleaders was certainly unique. But if it was in good taste is up for debate.

It's not something that you want to see when you're at the bottom of the ocean. But Maine diver, Eddie "Diver Ed" Monat, encountered a shark while diving in Frenchman Bay off Bar Harbor, "one of the big boys," as he described it, and he caught it on video!
