Walmart to Eliminate Greeter Position
Walmart recently announced that they are doing away with their greeters. According to WGME, this is due to the creation of a replacement position, "customer host", which will be more physically demanding than the traditional greeter position.
This has come as a blow to many of the thousands of greeters currently employed by the retail giant. The greeter position has long been a great option for those with disabilities wanting to work but unable to have more traditional retail jobs due to physical limitations, as well as the older population looking to supplement retirement income. The new "customer host" position requires that the individual "will need to be able to lift 25 pound packages, climb ladders and stand for long periods", a tall, if not impossible order for many.
Positions have already begun to phase out and the position will be eliminated entirely by April 26th.
