Stan Lee Teased a ‘Major’ New Character in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
Avengers: Infinity War is going to contain a truly ridiculous number of characters, new and old, all ready to duke it out for possession of the most powerful weapon in the universe. There have already been a few rumored new additions — like Thanos’ dogs of war the Black Order — but Mister Marvel himself, Stan Lee, recently teased yet another new addition that fans of the comics will really be excited about.
While he spoke at a small Q&A in Des Moines, Iowa, Gamezone reports that Lee casually mentioned a new addition to Infinity War, but remained tight-lipped about who it was.
It was also hinted at that a major new character will appear in Avengers: Infinity War. When asked if he could give us any details, his assistant whispered in his ear and told him he can’t discuss it in-depth. He said that a new character (maybe even multiple) would appear and it would please the fans.
We already know it’s not Adam Warlock, because James Gunn himself said he wouldn’t appear in the MCU until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which comes out after Infinity War (and also takes place after it, chronologically). That does still leave a ton of other possibilities, Marvel comics being as vast as they are, but I do have one theory. Stan Lee’s cameos (him in a space suit talking to some robed bald guys) during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced the Watchers, extraterrestrial entities who show up during big events in order to witness history. If a Watcher is there, you know something is about to go down. Uatu is the Watcher assigned to watch over Earth, and the one who periodically checks in with the Avengers and Fantastic Four in the comics. And what event could be bigger than Thanos finally descending from his space-throne to battle Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?
