Maine Legislature will be considering a proposal to legalize prostitution. The bill is entitled "An Act To Decriminalize Engaging in Prostitution" and the hearing on the bill is scheduled for this afternoon, according to WMTW.

The bill proposes an amendment to the laws currently on the books that currently lay out the following fines, "an assessment of $500 on any person for the first conviction and $1,000 for each subsequent conviction of engaging a prostitute..." The amendment would change the wording from "prostitute" to "prostituted person", thus removing the crime off consensual transactions and continuing to criminalize those engaging in human trafficking.

A public hearing will be heald today at 1 pm at the State House, Room 436.
