Monopoly Is About to Make a Major Change to the Game
Monopoly as you know it is no more.
Hasbro has announced the thimble will no longer be a piece in the iconic game. The thimble enjoyed a remarkably long run with the game -- it's been part of it since 1935. The decision comes after an online vote from fans and follows a similar move in 2013 when the iron was given the boot and replaced by a cat.
The thimble was given a brief eulogy by Hasbro. "The Thimble token will not “Pass GO” in the next generation of the Monopoly game," the company said. "The lucky Thimble has lost its 'shine' with today's fans and will be retired from the game.
Fans were also given the option to vote on what will take the place of the thimble. There were 64 total choices (56 of which are new), which will be cut down to eight, announced on March 19, which, conveniently, just so happens to be World Monopoly Day. That means some of the other classic pieces could also get the heave-ho.
For those of you keeping score, the remaining Monopoly pieces, as of right now, are Scottie Dog, Car, Battleship, Hat, Boot, Wheelbarrow and Cat.
