According to the KJ, one student at Maranacook Middle School has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The Maine CDC called the Superintendent of RSU 38, Jay Charette, on Monday morning to report that there was a student in the district with a “probable positive” COVID-19 test

As a result, Maranacook Middle School, will switch to remote learning until at least October 13th.  Additionally, due to the mix of students on the bus taken by the infected student, the high school will be closed until Thursday so the building can undergo a "deep clean".

A message posted on the district's website said, in part:

"This letter is to inform you that an individual associated with Maranacook Middle School recently tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). There is a possibility that other staff or students came in contact with this individual and therefore may be exposed to the virus. We are informing you out of an abundance of caution. Please monitor yourself/your student for signs and symptoms. Call a health care provider if symptoms start. It is important that you call a healthcare facility before you show up in person."

The message also mentions that Mount Vernon, Readfield, and Wayne elementary schools will continue to run normally.
