Maine Snowboarder Sets New Guinness World Record
What's better than setting a new world record? Setting a new world record on your home turf!
According to News Center Maine, on top of being a member of the US snowboard racing team, 24 year old Myles Silverman is now a Guinness Book of World Records record holder! Even more satisfying, he was able to set that record at his home mountain of Sugarloaf.
On Monday, April 14th, Silverman set a new record for greatest vertical distance snowboarded over the course of 12 hours.
In that time, he was able to make 56 runs which totaled nearly 100,000 vertical feet.
When it was all over, he celebrated the record by popping open a bottle of champagne in front of the SuperQuad lift, the lift that helped him achieve this accomplishment!
Myles Silverman has been in love with the sport of snowboarding since he was very young. Even though he lived his first few years in the Boston area, Silverman's family moved to Brunswick when he was 7 years old. Later, Silverman went to high school in the winter sports Mecca of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He continue to snowboard in college, boarding Hobart and William Smith College in New York. He has been with the US snowboard racing team since 2015.
Myles Silverman's hope is that he will be able to compete in the Winter Olympic Games in 2026. Those games will be held in the area around Milan, Italy.
