According to the Bangor Daily News, Sacopee Valley Middle Schooler Olivia Marion loves science, making stuff, and NASA!  So, when her mom found out NASA was hosting a contest for students, she know her daughter would want to enter.

The NASA Optimus Prime Spinoff Promotion and Research Challenge (OPSPARC) challenged students to take a technology developed by NASA and modify it for home use.

In December, as the temperature dropped, the eleven year old started working on a solar powered heated hat.  She said she designed it people who work outside and for homeless people.

It incorporates carbon fiber heat tape developed by NASA.

She's the only Mainer who made it into the top 10 for her age group.
