New Hampshire’s First Snowfall of the Season Lands on Mount Washington

No? Well, you might want to take a break from your leaf peeping, pumpkin spicing, and corn mazing for this fun heads up: snow has hit New Hampshire.

The first snow of the season (no need to check your calendar, it's still fall) fell on Mount Washington on October 16, with even more landing only a few days later.

The snow covering Mount Washington is a clear sign of things to come, but you can relax knowing there's probably still some time before it starts hitting the cities and towns of the Granite State.

Still, it's always wild to see that visual reveal of white covering everything when you've only just gotten used to the change in temperatures and pulled out your favorite hoodie.

The Mount Washington Observatory shared on its Facebook page an incredible image of the first measurable snowfall of the season on October 16. That was accompanied by some rime ice and freezing fog.

Things cleared up the next day for another really great picture, along with the indication that 0.4 inches of snow had fallen.

How Much Snow Fell on Mount Washington in October 2025?

But the more larger amount to fall came on Monday, October 20, according to a Facebook post from the observatory, indicating 1.2 inches. That marks the first 1-inch snow event of the season and brings the October total to 1.6 inches.

Sure, it doesn't sound like much, especially when the Mount Washington Observatory noted that the October average is 19 inches, but it's certainly enough to make Granite Staters start double-checking where they left their snow brushes. (In the car already, right?)
