The Cheapest New Hampshire Towns to Live May Have You Shaking Your Head
You don't have to tell anyone who lives here in New Hampshire that we have it really good. We have top rated colleges, including one world class Ivy League school, beautiful lake beaches and healthcare that's close to excellent and close to Boston.
Home values in the Granite State have gone up in recent years, as most every state in the Northeast, with the average home price at $506,000, according to houzeo.com.

New families and retirees are attracted to the state for our motto, "Live Free or DIE," and for no sales tax. When you get here, however, you'll find out that NH gets their money from real estate taxes, so it's all a wash, I'm sure.
Here's How The Top 10 Cheapest Places in NH Were Calculated
Houzeo did their own calculations on where the cheapest places to live would be in New Hampshire by three categories: Is it for families, for young adults and for retirees. Each of the 603 cities were also based on the real estate market, home value, rent and cost of living.
Here's what they came up with:
10. Dover
9. Hanover
8. Laconia
7. Concord
6. Somersworth
5. Rochester
4. Franklin
3. Keene
2. Claremont
and the number one cheapest town to live in in New Hampshire is....
1. Berlin
If you go anywhere to try and rent and apartment or buy a house, it almost doesn't make a difference where you go in New Hampshire, but they have Dover and Hanover on the list. No way, Jose. Dover's school system is excellent and housing prices reflect that.
Hanover is home to Dartmouth College, so the rent and real estate up there can't be "cheap," either, but maybe in comparison to the rest of the country, it seems reasonable.
