A new article is claiming a small city in Central Maine is one of the places to watch out for in 2024. And I mean this in a good way.

The popular travel site Inside Hook recently focused its attention on towns across the nation to check out in 2024. The site selected 10, with one of them being right here in Maine. That town is actually a city, albeit a small one. Yes, we are talking about Waterville.

Heck yeah, Waterville. Way to score some national love. And why not? It's quite a fine city, and another great example of a former mill town that's in the middle of a resurrection.

The downtown district is loaded with small shops, eateries, cafes, and is all very accessible. In the summer months many of those joints have outside seating. It's something that every town should aspire to have more of.  It's also just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Kennebec River, making it quite picturesque.

Waterville is also home to Colby College, Thomas College, the incredible Alfond Center, one of the best country clubs in the state, and even the historic Waterville Opera House. Nobody should be questioning the level of culture, recreation, and arts that can be found within this diverse city.

But enough from me. Here's why Inside Hook selected Waterville as one of the 10 small towns (or cities) to check out in 2024.

...the picturesque town of Waterville showcases Maine’s untouched beauty at its finest with flora and fauna at every corner and a direct view of the Kennebec River that runs directly through it. Guests are encouraged to wander aimlessly through what’s been described as “Maine’s most beautiful city,”

It should also be pointed out that Waterville is just a few miles away from one of the most underrated areas of the entire state, the Belgrade Lakes. It's just as beautiful as any other section, but with about half the pomp and circumstance. you know, kind of like Waterville.

Congrats to Waterville on the national attention, even if it incorrectly names it a town. But I think we can let that slide. Heres to many more years of growth and discovery.

Maine just keeps moving up.
