New Zealand-style Ice Cream Shop Opening in Portland, Maine

If you didn't know by now, Maine is obsessed with ice cream. Maine people consume about 23 quarts of ice cream each year per person. That's about 8 more quarts per person than the national average.

It shows around the state when you notice just how many ice cream shops exist. Many of those shops have been in business for decades.

So if you're getting into the ice cream business in Maine, you're going to have to find a way to stand out. And one new ice cream pop-up shop in Portland, Maine, seems like they may do just that.

Reef's Real Fruit Ice Cream Set to Open in Portland, Maine

According to Portland Food Map, a new pop-up called Reef's Real Fruit Ice Cream is set to open this summer in partnership with Rising Tide brewery.

Reef's will serve a selection of New Zealand-style ice cream, which blends traditional ice cream bases with real fruit. That combination delivers a silky smooth soft serve that is less sweet than a traditional soft serve.

Reef's plans to offer many different fruit flavors including pineapple, mango, raspberry, banana and strawberry. And if you're going to operate in Maine, you'll have to include a special blueberry flavor as well.

Reef's Real Fruit Ice Cream Will Set Up On the Rising Tide Patio in Portland, Maine

One of the most walkable areas of Portland, Maine, will be home to Reef's Real Fruit Ice Cream pop-up shop.

Reef's will be operating from the Rising Tide Brewery patio. East Bayside now has a variety of breweries, wineries and seltzeries that make for a great walking experience. Those places have also been hosting food vendors each summer.

Reef's Real Fruit Ice Cream hopes to open in mid-June.
