Despite a string of closures that put the culinary standing of Portland, Maine, into question, the little city with big flavors isn't ready to throw in the towel yet.

One of the most impressive things about Portland is the diversity in its restaurant scene. From quaint spots to impressively large operations.

There's also the matter of the styles of cuisine that are available. Portland has so many restaurants that offer different, specific styles of cuisines that you can essentially tour the world in just a few hours. Soon enough, there will another offering that should entice globe trotters taste buds within city limits.

Barkada will be operating out of the space formally occupied by a Subway franchise. Their plan to have a fast-casual restaurant with big flavors. That will be perfect for the remaining office crowd in the Old Port as well as hungry tourists looking to eat and run quickly.

Barkada Will Also Launch an Accompanying Food Truck

Alongside the fast-casual restaurant, Barkada also plans to have an accompanying food truck by the same name. The food truck plans to serve more Filipino street fare. That will include serving 'walking tacos', nachos served in a Doritos bag.

Barkada hopes to have the food truck operational by this summer and a grand opening for the restaurant sometime this fall.
