Bowling remains an incredibly popular sport all across Maine.

The state is still home to dozens of bowling alleys including many that regularly league events, disco nights and more.

But for whatever reason, the bowling alley that exists at 725 Broadway in South Portland, Maine, just hasn't figured out a way to sustain.

That's because for the third time in the last seven years, that bowling alley is preparing to shut the lights off for good.

According to WMTW, Broadway Bowl in South Portland, Maine, has announced plans to permanently close on Sunday, May 17.

Broadway Bowl opened in 2023, hoping to extend some of the success that Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine, has seen in recent years into a new location.

But the appetite for bowling and regular visitors to Broadway Bowl has slow and those economic challenges have led the owners to the difficult decision to close the location for good.

Bayside Bowl continues to remain incredibly popular and will continue all operations as normal.

What Will Become of the Broadway Bowl Space in South Portland, Maine?

It's difficult to know what is next for the Broadway Bowl space in South Portland, Maine, following their May 17 closure.

Easy Day was the first to transition the space at 725 Broadway into a full-time bowling alley. Easy Day rolled for six years before closing permanently in 2019,

Sea Dog Brewing tried their hand as well, opening a hybrid Sea Dog brewpub and bowling alley. That closed in 2023 due to what Sea Dog called high costs.

It seems unlikely another bowling alley will open in the space after three different businesses have closed in the last seven years.
