Aldi Eyeing Location For Second Store in Maine
There was nearly a year worth of buzz surrounding the grand opening of an Aldi store in Portland, Maine.
Since its grand opening back in March, the Portland, Maine, Aldi has consistently been busy. That has raised the likelihood that Aldi will continue to open additional stores in the state.
That seems to be the case as rumors have begun to swirl in an unexpected part of Maine that Aldi is preparing to open their second location in the state.
Aldi Eyeing Former Save-A-Lot Location in South Paris, Maine
Back in May of this year, Save-A-Lot made the difficult decision to close both their Lewiston and South Paris, Maine, locations.
Store management blamed a variety of factors for the closures including declining revenue, increased costs and stiff competition from other larger chains.

That has left a former grocery store empty for months but it may not be empty much longer.
A since deleted Reddit post suggested that work has been ongoing inside the former South Paris, Maine, Save-A-Lot store and that it would be the future home of Aldi.
Right now, that remains a rumor. What isn't a rumor that the same plaza will be home to a new Taco Bell location.
According to the Lewiston Sun-Journal, the original plan for the plaza was a new Wendy's location but that has been abandoned. There's no firm timetable on when the new Taco Bell will open.
More Aldi Stores in Maine Have Always Been Part of The Expansion Plan
The Portland, Maine, Aldi location will end up being 1 of 180 new stores the German-grocery chain opens in 2026. But they don't plan to stop there.

According to Supermarket News, Aldi has ambitious plans to become one of the preeminent grocery chains in America over the next several years.
Aldi plans to open an additional 400 new locations by the end of 2028, hoping to swallow up market share in some of its newer markets. Some of Maine's more underserved markets were always a target for Aldi.
While it remains unconfirmed, it appears South Paris, Maine, might be in line for the next Aldi store in Maine.
