The evolution of the taco movement in Maine has been nothing but positive.

I remember growing up back in the late 1980s with very few options in the taco department. Now, 30 years later, it seems like there are delicious taco options everywhere I look. It’s like dying and going to culinary heaven.

While it’s practically impossible to call out Maine’s best taco, one website decided to go for it — and it’s a very solid choice.

As for the site’s Maine selection? Well, it’s a joint in the heart of Portland that’s known for its tasty food and excellent drinks. That place is the popular Taco Escobarr, and specifically, its Bisteck Crispy Taco.

Located on Congress Street in the Arts District, Taco Escobarr has been dishing out Mexican classics and creative margaritas since opening a decade ago. It’s not unusual to see lines queuing out the door nightly. Heck, it can even be a tough seat to snag at lunch — and for good reason: it’s delicious.

Taco Escobarr in Portland, Maine, Offers a Wide Variety of Tacos

Plates are simply overflowing with tasty food, like gigantic burritos and mouthwatering nachos. However, it’s the tacos that take center stage. Diners can choose from 10 different proteins, like chorizo, al pastor pork, and lightly fried white fish. On top of that, there are three different styles: the soft taco, crispy taco, and the fun puffy taco.

However, let’s talk about the reason we’re doing this article — the Bisteck Crispy Taco. This thing is the real deal. Just listen to this description from TheDailyMeal.com:

The crispy taco is the winner of the bunch. Fill yours with smoky slow-braised, poblano-kicked shredded beef, melted Chihuahua cheese, green onion, cabbage and cilantro.

Someone order me 10 of these ASAP.

I do want to point out that my go-to at Taco Escobarr is the crispy taco. A fried corn shell is one of the luxuries of life. So when those bad boys are filled with incredible ingredients like this, then it’s sure to be a winner.

However, don’t sleep on the puffy tacos. Those things hit hard, too.
