With trails being such a big part of life here in Maine, I became curious about which ones are the most popular. So, we decided to put together a list of some of the state’s best.
What are the Best Hiking Trails Outside of Baxter and Acadia?
But there was one catch: we omitted every trail from Maine’s two most well-known locations—Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park. Nothing against them, of course, but we wanted to highlight some of Maine’s hidden gems that absolutely deserve more attention.

Below is a list of 10 of those trails. It's a wonderfully diverse group that includes spots from Southern Maine, the Northwest, the Midcoast, Aroostook County, and beyond. It’s a true Maine mashup.
As proud as I am to have hiked a few of these, it’s exciting to see others that have piqued (no pun intended) my interest.
