This is the restaurant you're looking for—especially for all you Star Wars fans.

Chaval, the highly acclaimed West End neighborhood eatery, is going galactic this May. The Spanish- and French-inspired restaurant announced on social media a specially themed meal coming up on May 4... or should I say, May the 4th.

Chaval in Portland, Maine, Will Host its Annual Star Wars-Themed Dinner on May 4th

The Chaval empire is gearing up for its sixth annual Star Wars-themed dinner. Chef and owner Damien Sansonetti spoke to us a few years ago about this fun event. He shared that the themed dinner dates back to 2014, when they first held it at their former restaurant, Piccolo.

May 4th or "Star Wars Day," has become the unofficial day to recognize your Star Wars fandom. Social media goes wild, movie theaters replay the films, and now more and more restaurants and bars are getting involved. It’s a fun way for fans to celebrate one of the country’s most beloved and popular franchises.

Chaval draws inspiration from Star Wars for its food, drinks, and even ambiance. Sansonetti told me he's a superfan and plans to bring in pieces from his own Star Wars collection to help decorate the restaurant. Talk about an immersive experience.

Chaval's Special Menu Will Be an Ode to Everything Star Wars

Each course might emulate a movie scene, character, spaceship, weapon, creature, or droid. Like space itself, the possibilities seem endless for Sansonetti and his Jedi kitchen staff.

As for the drinks? Expect fun stories there, too. Cocktails—and even shots—will highlight the eclectic menu. I was even told that some cocktails are served in vintage 1970s and 1980s Burger King glasses. As I said, no detail is overlooked.
Side note: imagine accidentally breaking one of those glasses? That would be a tough look.

What a great event Sansonetti and his team put on. Finding inspiration from something you love is every chef’s dream—and seeing it play out the way it does at Chaval is quite a sight. It’s no surprise Chaval is often in the conversation as one of Portland’s best spots.
