Ice Cream Time: A New Ben & Jerry’s Is Opening Up in Freeport, Maine

Anyone craving some ice cream?

Spring has arrived in Maine, the snow is gone (hopefully I didn't just jinx that), and the temps are starting to go up on the regular, so it seems like the perfect time to get a scoop or two.

And it looks like the new Ben & Jerry's location in Freeport, Maine, has announced its opening.

If you're thinking, "Wait. I thought there already was a Ben & Jerry's in Freeport," don't worry. You're not crazy.

Ben & Jerry's is simply moving locations in the popular shopping town.

This is also not the first time Ben & Jerry's has had to pack up and change its location.

Remember when it was right beside the flagship store?

When L.L. Bean was making some enhancements to the area in 2010, according to the Portland Press Herald, that included demolishing the Ben & Jerry's and relocating it to behind what was then the Abercrombie & Fitch building (it's now an Island Treasure Toys).

Now, it's moving from that smaller spot over to the Freeport Village Station, which is near stores like the L.L. Bean Outlet, Coach Factory, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, and Old Navy Outlet.

The official grand opening, according to the Visit Freeport Facebook page, is Thursday, May 15, BUT, they will be opening for the first time with a soft opening on Friday, April 18.

What better time to go grab an ice cream with the kids than the start of spring break?

According to Wilderco.com, the new 1,850-square-foot Ben & Jerry's spot "promises to enhance the experience for residents and visitors alike." The website also notes that there will be plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

There are two other Ben & Jerry's locations in Maine, but they are further south.

You can find them in Kennebunkport and Ogunquit.

North of Freeport? Unfortunately, there aren't any scoop shops up that way, so if you need your Ben & Jerry's ice cream fix, you'll have to make a road trip to get it.
